This report for the National Printing Industry Training Council (NPITC) focuses on TAFE courses in the field of printing engineering technologies. The key objectives of the analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of current courses and to develop a broader information base relating to vocational education and training courses for forward planning by the NPITC. The author stresses that conclusions drawn from the data must be cautious, due to the small number of printing graduates in Australia (377 in 1997). Key findings reflected that courses are performing above the TAFE average on two critical indicators, TAFE graduate employment outcomes and graduates' opinions on the course relevance to their job. The findings suggest that course quality and provider issues could benefit from further research.
