VET in the learning age: the challenge of lifelong learning for all, volume 1

This document is volume one of a report on a study into the implications of lifelong learning for vocational education and training (VET) which was commissioned by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) and undertaken by Global Learning Services in association with the Research Centre for Vocational Education and Training (RCVET) at the University of Technology Sydney during 1998. The concept of lifelong learning was broadly defined in consultations undertaken across Australia, an overview of international trends was prepared, and five case studies carried out. Volume one contains the background to the study, an examination of contexts for learning, a discussion of the challenges that the study identified as central to the role of the VET sector in the transition to a learning society, and a final section that sets out the conclusions of the study, the implications for VET in a learning society to guide policy and strategies towards lifelong learning objectives, and an identification of the values and principles needed to underpin lifelong learning in a learning society.
