Our forests forever?: language and ideology in community education materials

The theory of critical pedagogy and the concept of metaphor analysis provide a framework for deconstructing the texts produced by the New South Wales government department responsible for the management of the State's forests. The writer argues that these texts are not intended to provide information for community education but to propagate the dominant social paradigm which values forests as a source of goods to support economic growth rather than as unique, irreplaceable ecosystems.
