This speech considers some of the external influences shaping post-compulsory education and training, specifically addressing inter-sectoral relationships. The paper considers the nature of the boundaries between 'education' and 'training', and the nature of the term 'vocational', discusses the changing attitudes of students towards post-compulsory education, and considers in general the relationship between these educational factors and the imperatives of the labour market, concluding with a plea for cohesiveness across the post-compulsory sectors.
