- Australian apprentices and trainees 1997: apprentices and trainees TAFE courses: an overview
-
This publication is about apprentices and trainees who had a contract of training with an employer during 1997 and who studied with a TAFE provider. In particular, it provides information relating to the courses and modules undertaken as part of their off-the-job training. For this publication, records from the quarterly collection of apprentice and trainee data have been matched with data from the annual collection of data from vocational education and training (VET) providers. Details of the matching process are provided in the appendix. Key findings are: that the profile of apprentices and trainees studying with a TAFE provider is different from that of the general VET population; that participation among males is higher that that among females; and that participation is highest in the 15 to 19 year age group.

- Australian apprentices and trainees 1997: apprentices and trainees at TAFE: an overview
-
This publication gives detailed demographic information about apprentices and trainees studying with a technical and further education (TAFE) provider in 1997. It provides more detailed information than has previously been available about the characteristics of apprentices and trainees undertaking a contract of training with an employer. The 123,230 apprentices and trainees for whom matched data are available provide a large and reliable sample, with relatively small amounts of missing data. The overview section provides an introducation to the more detailed information that follows. Apprentices and trainees are then profiled by age and gender and these data are compared with data for the whole VET student population. Australian Qualifications Framework course and module enrolments for apprentices and trainees studying with a TAFE provider are given. Information is provided about apprentices and trainees studying with a TAFE provider in the following categories: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander apprentices and trainees; residential location with comparisons of geographic regions; The data is further analysed by country of birth and main language spoken in the home, prior educational qualifications completed and client disability.
