Making a difference: the impact of Australia’s indigenous education and training policy

This report shows that a concerted national policy effort can make a difference in the struggle to achieve real and lasting improvements in the socio-economic position of indigenous Australians if there is widespread community agreement amongst all levels of government and if there is widespread community support for reform amongst indigenous and non-indigenous alike. The report points out that the national indigenous education and training policy that was adopted a decade ago has created the conditions for considerable progress towards the aim of parity in participation in education and training amongst indigenous and non-indigenous people.
