This paper gives an overview of the role of the Ministerial Task Force on Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools. Established in 1996 by Commonwealth and State Ministers, it consists of representatives from State/Territory governments, the non-government sector, the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA), the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DETYA), the Australian Student Traineeship Foundation (ASTF), Curriculum Corporation and a range of industry organisations. In summary, the VET in Schools agenda is focused on increasing the pathways and options for students. A set of revised national goals for schooling have been developed, with the intention of establishing the pathway for lifelong learning, from the foundations established in the early years through to senior secondary education including vocational education and linking to employment and continuing education and training.
