Vocal: the Australian journal of vocational education and training in schools.

This new national journal for the vocational education and training (VET) sector came from the perceptions of the Steering Committee of the Vocational Education and Training Network (VETNETwork) that the rapid growth of VET in schools warranted close attention and that there was no periodical available with that particular focus. The journal is intended to be an annual publication, reader-friendly, stimulating, reasonably erudite and challenging, and is dedicated to providing a synthesis of that which is topical, current and relevant to the VET in schools community.

Competency based assessment of structured workplace learning

Since the introduction of the Australian Recognition Framework (ARF), competency assessments conducted in vocational education and training (VET) and workplace settings have become increasingly important. The different notions of competency that impact on the way an assessor selects assessment methods, designs assessment tasks, and collects evidence of competency to make a judgement are explored. The implications for teachers designing and conducting assessments of students' workplace learning also are explored.
