Staff development for student service providers

This report was funded by the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) and commissioned by the Education and Student Services Standing Committee (ESSSC) of the National TAFE Chief Executives Committee (NTCC). It examines the development needs of staff providing student services and recommends a framework for future staff development activities. A literature search was carried out which uncovered limited data on staff development needs for those providing student services, though some needs were identified for library services staff. Consultations occurred across all states and territories, and needs that are common across all states and territories emerged. Staff development activities which are generic and can be adapted to local needs and organisational cultures are recommended. The report offers a recommended framework for staff development consisting of a suite of training methodologies incorporation Action Learning, Networking, Return to Industry, Skills Training, and Job Rotation, and details training packages currently in use.
