Australian training review no. 27, June/July/August 98

This quarterly journal is produced for industry trainers, business managers, and TAFE personnel. In this issue there are two special feature sections: the first focusing on New Apprenticeships and the second offering an information technology update. Also included is a liftout on apprentices and trainees entitled: ‘Apprentices and trainees in Australia 1985 to 1997: at a glance’. Individual papers may be found from TD/TNC 53.54 to TD/TNC 53.61.

A little more special than most

In this paper Jane Figgis talks about training with Cheryl Edwardes, Western Australian State Minister for Employment and Training. In the view of the Minister, Western Australia has some unique problems such as the huge distances between the capital, Perth, and small rural and regional communities, so that the provision of high quality, equitable training requires novel solutions. Recent government initiatives are discussed and comment is made on future directions.
