In this paper Jane Figgis talks about training with Cheryl Edwardes, Western Australian State Minister for Employment and Training. In the view of the Minister, Western Australia has some unique problems such as the huge distances between the capital, Perth, and small rural and regional communities, so that the provision of high quality, equitable training requires novel solutions. Recent government initiatives are discussed and comment is made on future directions.
