Modern apprenticeships

The Government's new apprenticeship system, the Modern Australian Apprenticeship and Traineeship System (MAATS) is discussed in this brief paper. In combination with associated wage arrangements, MAATS opens up new work/study options. However, if control of the new system is passed to industry, the possibility of problems in maintaining quality must be addressed.
