The purpose of this project was to research and analyse the issues affecting people who live in distant and rural communities and to produce a report which could be used to inform national planning for the vocational education and training sector. Analysed were issues relating to that sector from the perspectives of planners, training providers (public and private), key agencies and organisations, and those engaged in or seeking to access vocational education and training. This summary paper encapsulates the report's findings and emphasises key issues, such as the relationship between the ability of a rural region to provide training and employment opportunities for its youth and the viability of the regional and national economies.
