Interdependence of pedagogy, learning theory, morality and metaphysics

The central concern from which this paper arises is whether a realist metaphysics - the belief in a real world, in mind-independent knowledge about it, and the skills to work effectively in it - presses educators and trainers toward a transmission mode of teaching. This teaching is based on a container, or banking, model of mind, rather than a more facilitative pedagogy which seems to be required if a constructivist theory of learning is adopted.
