- Integrating the development of literacy and numeracy competence into vocational curricula

As part of the move towards a 'clever country', industry is being restructured and awards are being linked to qualifications. The government agenda is to ensure that both the long-term unemployed as well as experienced, but not formally, competent workers, have access to education and training. Researchers have demonstrated that integral to the success of training are multiple 'literacies' which are highly contextualised. In this paper, the authors explore what is meant by 'integrated curricula' and present two case studies as models of integration.
