Performing competencies: of training protocols and vocational education practices

This paper explores the practical politics of a contemporary vocational curriculum system change, the move to competency-based vocational education and training. The author suggests that competency-based training tends to a 'control' model of curriculum organisation, and that the question remains whose knowledge, whose standards, what skills, which hierarchies are to be empowered in competency approaches to vocational education and training as CBT unfolds.
