Australian and New Zealand journal of vocational education research, vol. 4, no. 1, 1996

This journal aims to provide articles which advance our knowledge and understanding of vocational education and training. It concentrates on current or recently completed research, and reviews of research in areas of topical interest. In addition, there are abstracts, book reviews, details of forthcoming events, reports of workshops and letters to the editor. The journal aims to serve the interests of vocational educators, researchers and administrators and has an emphasis on research useful to them in their work.

Some features of school industry programs in Australia: a study of co-operative vocational education projects

The purpose of this paper is to describe some details of the vocational education provided by school-industry programs in Australia. From the broad characteristics of school-industry projects, 35 indicators or descriptive features were developed and grouped into six main areas. These indicators were linked to the criteria established by the Australian Student Traineeship Foundation. A database of school-industry programs was used for a sample of 65 programs from all States. The results indicated a wide range in the nature of programs. Less than half of the projects surveyed would meet the basic criteria proposed for school-industry programs.
