Assessing clerical-administrative competencies in the workplace

The Assessor's manual shows supervisors how to assess the competencies and skills of their clerical-administrative staff in the workplace; its companion, the Record book, is for the clerical administrative worker whose competencies are being assessed. Section 1 of the manual describes the nationally accepted competency standards for clerical-administrative workers which have been developed by NOSFAB through a series of field tests in a range of enterprises. Section 2 of the manual covers types of assessment, features of sound assessment and a number of assessment methods. Section 3 describes how supervisors should proceed with assessing the competencies of their clerical-administrative staff, while Section 4 shows how to record staff assessments so that they are useful and accessible for purposes of awarding certificates and diplomas. Examples are given.
