This book argues that the vocational contribution of the generalist higher education courses in arts and science can be improved, without impairing the educational role of these academic disciplines. The study investigates whether a competency-based approach to generalist education is desirable and feasible. It also looks at other ways of improving the relationship between generalist higher education and work.
