Joint educational developments are developments that either span the existing and traditional education sectors or developments between education sectors and institutions outside those sectors. This paper outlines the background to such developments, discusses types and benefits of joint developments, and some obstacles to them. The author concludes that they hold an important key to Australia's educational future, and have the potential to provide many benefits which existing educational structures have difficulty in delivering. They need freedom to develop without the baggage of existing systems.
