The topic of students' interests is receiving increasing attention in educational research, however there has been little emphasis on the role of interests in vocational education. This paper looks at the research done in this area and finds that both subject preference and vocational choice were related to the student's best subject and also that there was an interaction effect between these factors. There is also an effect from teaching quality. Interests appear to be powerful influences in post-school education, and a factor in learning.
