This article explains the changing roles for trainers in metals industry award restructuring. It maintains that a successful start has been made by the industry in a major restructuring move to reform training and, it is hoped, productivity. Implementation of the engineering production certificate has demanded new roles, relationships, skills and operational models of and between TAFE and industry. The article looks at one innovative training partnership formed between the industry and Western Metropolitan College of TAFE (WMCOT) in Melbourne.
