Labour market program policies have been the subject of considerable debate within Australia, particularly over the previous two decades. The advent and introduction of the Australian Traineeship Scheme (ATS) represented enormous change within this area of educational policy and has been and still is highly contested and discussed particularly within the spheres of both vocational education and technical and further education. The author believes that the ATS is important because it represents a new method of training and an additional labour market entry point assisting the school-industry transition process.
