Developing a national curriculum for distance education

This paper was presented at the Australian Association for Educational Research (AARE) conference, Melbourne, November-December, 1986. In 1986 Trading Standards Level 1 became Australia’s first national distance education TAFE certificate course. It was offered through the Victorian TAFE Off-Campus Network (VTOCN), the result of joint effort of individuals from the Department of TAFE (SA), the TAFE Board (Vic), the National Standards Commission, the Institute of Trading Standards, the TAFE National Centre for Research and Development, the WA Technical Extension Service and VTOCN. This paper describes the Trading Standards curriculum development project.
