Graduate starting salaries 2000: a study of the earnings of new graduates in their first full-time employment in Australia, covering 1977 to 2000

This is a study of the median starting salaries of recent bachelor degree graduates with no prior work experience and in first full-time employment in Australia. This report offers information on the employment prospects by field of study as well as salary growth and comparisons to the rate of average weekly earnings. The Graduate Careers Council of Australia (GCCA) co-ordinates a national survey of higher education graduates (Australian citizens or permanent residents only) and their first destination after graduating. The results of the 2000 Graduate Destination Survey (GDS) are presented here. The report contains information concerning methodological aspects of the survey. Salaries are presented for states and territories, the general population, males and females and the factors affecting starting salaries are given. The main body of the report profiles salaries by fields of study including accounting, dentistry, education, law, and social work, amongst many others. The report concludes that overall the outlook for graduates remains positive.
