Drawing on the research of reviewing the new apprenticeship scheme across the States, Kaye Schofield identifies the major problems and suggests answers in this article. Issues discussed include: higher standards; graduated qualifications in the Australian Qualifications Framework; quantity but not at the expense of quality; entry-level system for young people; quality supply chain; more balanced view of workplace learning, and facilitated learning.
