Current funding structures have placed enormous pressure on the capacity of TAFE institutes to meet business and community needs. With the current Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) Agreement up for renegotiation in 2000, it is vital that the need for a new deal for TAFE is strongly articulated. In this article Michaela Kronemann, acting Women's Officer for the Australian Education Union (AEU), analyses the impact on TAFE of recent funding decisions and outlines the basis of a new deal. Areas discussed included growth through efficiencies, competitive tendering and resource impacts.
