This article presents two views about the Federal Government's Literacy and Numeracy program. Rosa McKenna outlines government policy from 1990 until the present time, including the Special Intervention Program (SIP) and Mutual Obligation program. Kevin Peoples discusses the link between literacy and numeracy and unemployment; and the role that education and training should take in the future. He suggests changes which could impact greatly on TAFE Institutes.
