The purpose of this pamphlet is to highlight the risks young people will be taking by leaving school and directly entering the labour market during 1993 and 1994. It examines the current conditions in the South Australian labour market facing young people, especially school leavers. The trends in youth employment are affected by general economic conditions and labour supply factors such as school participation. Students leaving school can maximise their chances of success in the labour market, thus minimising risks of unemployment, by examining these trends and looking at short-term prospects in the major industries that employ school leavers.
