The Smart investment: Queensland training and employment priorities 2005-2006

This document reports on the Smart State strategy, which seeks to develop new industries, diversify the economy, equip the workforce with new and improved levels of education and skills and improve the productivity of the workforce. In response to persistent skills shortages, in early 2005 the government announced a comprehensive review of the state's vocational education and training (VET) system. Through this strategy, the Queensland Department of Education and Training aims to ensure a coordinated approach to the provision of publicly and privately funded investment in training and employment strategies targeting key skills shortages areas and identified regional and client group priorities. The document reports on programs and funding (including TAFE) for all groups in the community and for urban and regional areas.
