Apprentice, trainee and employer-awareness and opinion studies: a market research report prepared for the Queensland Department of Employment and Training

This research study is intended to explore the factors behind firms and employers employing or not employing apprentices and trainees. The subjects of the study are: job seekers; school students; recently commenced apprentices and trainees; apprentices and trainees who have completed their training; and current, past and potential employers of apprentices and trainees. This report is not intended to be a ‘macro economic’ analysis of the factors behind employing or not employing apprentices and trainees. However it is clear that wider economic factors play their part, for example in the tendency of construction and related industries to be over-represented in the ‘lapsed’ employer category.
