Senior college concept

The tabling in the Queensland Parliament of 'Education 2000: issues and options for the future of education in Queensland' in March 1985, generated controversy throughout the State. One of the proposals which was challenged frequently was the one to establish senior colleges for students in the post-compulsory years. To the present, most of the publicised reactions have demonstrated an incomplete understanding of the Senior College concept. This paper proposes to clarify the concept through an analysis of the operation of existing Senior Colleges in Australia and the United Kingdom.
