This periodical is devoted to the many educational issues for minority ethnic groups. This issue covers the following: Jannie Van Hees offers suggestions for assisting students from non-English speaking backgrounds in the language that is the medium of learning in our classrooms; Ute Walker describes the problems and progress made in setting up the Deutsche Kinderklasse which was set up in response to a need for children's classes from families who had emigrated to New Zealand and were looking for a way to assist their children in keeping their first language; Patisepa Tuafuti hopes this study will stimulate classroom teachers to look more deeply into the problem of assisting bilingual students with effective educational experiences; Hilary A. Smith provides background information on the Lao and offers suggestions for classroom practice to aid in the teaching of Lao students.
