Two areas of tourism training have developed in response to new customers, namely ecotourism and wine tourism. A worldwide growing awareness of environmental issues and interest in natural and cultural heritage conservation have contributed to a growth in tours which focus on natural and cultural values. A greater emphasis on ecologically sustainable practices is also evident. The VET sector has responded to these changes by developing training which addresses issues such as minimising impacts of tourism on local environments and culture and developing sustainable practices. Ecotourism is very diverse in the nature of the business and the employment opportunities it provides. Another growth industry in tourism is the wine industry and its associated wine tourism. Numerous statement of attainment courses have been developed by TAFE NSW in response to an increase in demand for staff trained in these areas.
