Learning-to-learn skills: implications for planning VET courses

Gaining the necessary metacognitive skills for learning-to-learn is fundamental to taking personal responsibility in learning. Appropriate opportunities should be made available for learners to experience self-directedness at their current point of learning autonomy, with a view to assisting them towards a greater degree of self-direction. This will be of benefit to both the learner and to the vocational education and training (VET) institution. It is claimed that student attrition is reduced; and the learner is encouraged, both intrinsically and extrinsically, to not only continue gaining knowledge but to undertake the next learning project with a greater level of learning independence.
