There has been a rapid growth in the number of high school students in New South Wales (NSW) undertaking vocational education courses in government high schools. This article looks at the process by which all 40 school districts of the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) became Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). The article contains an interview with Ian Pratt, CEO School Self-Evaluation and Improvement with the NSW Department of Education and Training, about his role in working with VETAB during this process. Two DET District Vocational Education Consultants - Lyn Dun from the Taree District, and Penny Hughes from the Bondi District - relay their experiences in preparing schools in their respective districts for the compliance assessment process. This article is part of a feature for this issue entitled 'The continuing quest for quality'.
