This article provides an introduction to a feature on quality in this issue. It looks at the Quality-Endorsed Training Organisation (QETO) process in New South Wales (NSW) whereby, guided by the principles of the Australian Recognition Framework (ARF), training organisations are assessed to achieve the status of Quality-Endorsed Training Organisation. It looks at the role of the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB) in assessing institutions for QETO status. In New South Wales, VETAB endorsed ten QETO's between January 1998 and June 2000, eight of which were NSW TAFE Institutes.
