The Department of Corrective Services (DCS) is responsible for the state's correctional centres. In 1994 it established the Adult Education and Vocational Training Institute (AEVTI) to facilitate training delivery. TAFE NSW currently delivers more than 27,000 annual training hours in 25 locations throughout the state. In addition to providing details on the provision of training for NSW inmates the article also considers the characteristics of NSW inmates and outlines the 1996 document 'Strategic plan for TAFE NSW provision for aboriginal inmates'.
