Student selection in TAFE: discussion and case study

This paper discusses the various issues, problems, and difficulties that can arise when conducting student selection within the TAFE environment, particularly in regard to selecting students for high demand courses. One such course, the Asia Pacific Marketing Advanced Diploma, has been used as a case study to investigate and analyse the issues of student selection and to trial the written application and interview method of selection. A trial of an application and interview selection method was held during January 1996. Preliminary results and experiences gained from this trial are presented.
