Researching nurses' competence: an ethnographic approach

Ethnography is the direct observation of the activity of members of a particular social group and the description and evaluation of such activity. Ethnographic research techniques were used to collect data to determine if there were any measurable differences between practising registered and enrolled nurse knowledge skills and attitudes. This paper examines the principles that underpin ethnography and the methods used to collect data when implementing ethnographic research based on the nursing experience.
