This paper describes the flexible delivery of vocational education and training in rural New South Wales by the New England Institute of Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and some of the outcomes after 12 months operation. In servicing a large region of dispersed population, the Institute has accepted that traditional classroom approaches alone are unable to meet the needs and expectations of both students and industry. Over the past few years, the Institute has acquired considerable experience and expertise through the establishment and operation of a range of flexible delivery initiatives. This case study details the Institute's involvement, records the impact, and raises issues that will assist others in their application of alternative, more flexible learning services.
