In 1994, the Board of Vocational Education and Planning (BVET) ran the conference 'Planning for tomorrow in vocational education and training' (TD/NSW 42.08). As a result of that conference, the project manager visited a number of vocational education and training (VET) sites in different states to report on practical approaches being adopted to address planning issues (TD/NSW 48.29). At the same time, several practitioners in the VET field were invited to prepare papers on specific planning issues. The papers, published in this document, are:

The papers in this collection specifically address planning activities in the vocational education and training (VET) system in Australia. The papers include a range of viewpoints related to policy, future directions and strategic planning; demographic, economic and other information available to VET planners and the uses and limitations of these data sources; client focussed education and differences between public and private providers and the measurement of costs and benefits in planning for education.
