Recent government policies on credit transfer and recognition of overseas qualifications and skills both aim for efficient use of prior learning and avoidance of wasteful forced participation in courses covering knowledge and skills that a person already possesses. Together with the emphasis on competency-based training, it is likely that more and more calls will be placed on NSW TAFE for assessment of prior learning (APL) that has occurred at the workplace or elsewhere.
