The South Australian Government, on taking office, commissioned two major reviews of TAFE governance in South Australia. These reviews were 'Review of TAFE Governance', known as the Kirby report and indexed at TD/LMR 86.18 and 'Skills for the future', known as the Schofield report and indexed at TD/LMR 86.19. This paper is intended to: present the Government's vision for the future of the South Australian further education and training system as put forward through the Kirby Review and the Skills Inquiry; confirm and reinforce the standing of TAFE SA, which already compares favourably with both interstate and overseas counterparts; and provide a rationale for new governance arrangements for TAFE, required to meet future skills demands from industry and community.
