Despite the considerable progress achieved during the last decades in terms of education of young people and adults of both sexes, girls and women are still hampered by the problems of inequality of opportunity which are numerous and complex. These problems result mainly from the perpetuation of prejudices which give more importance to the education of males than that of females, and from the shortage of human and material resources available for education. This report from New Zealand aims to alert the competent authorities and the public at large to the need to promote genuine equality of opportunity in scientific, technical, technological and vocational education for young people and adults of both sexes, and to make known some measures, actions and projects which have been taken and implemented in this direction.
