In this article the author discusses the implications for technical and vocational education of the increasingly globalised economy. An environment of rapid technological change requires the creation of a productive, flexible workforce. There is a need for education for employment, including self-employment and entrepreneurship, and education for life skills. Technical and vocational education (TVE) can provide people with the skills required to give them better opportunities for employment and re-employment and to function in modern societies. The author emphasises the need for a concerted effort from all stakeholders in TVE in meeting the challenges posed by globalisation.
