Leading change in TET

In this volume, the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC) has undertaken to bring new managerial concepts and ideas for technician education and training (TET) into one volume. The ideas have been adapted or adopted from business and industry by a range of experts and applied to various aspects of TET. The book is divided into three major sections: Chapter one - Transforming, Chapter two - Re-engineering; and Chapter three - Boundaryless TET. Change leaders: more than just good managers

This article appears in Chapter 1 - Transforming, which deals with various concepts of leadership in the context of technician education and training (TET). The author examines the change phenomenon and its significance for TET institutions. He emphasises the importance of total quality management (TQM) which ensures that organisations are open to influences from many sources outside the institutions themselves and are learning organisations, encouraging individuals to be part of the growth and change. He establishes a TQM strategy and examines the role of change leaders and quality teams. He maintains that innovative approaches to program design, delivery and assessment are essential for TET managers and that strong and effective leadership is essential.
