The purpose of this paper is to describe an approach to curriculum development, called chunking, which aims to meet the needs of the twenty-first century workforce. By chunking the curriculum into short-term, non-credit modules, educational institutions can be flexible in meeting the education and training needs of lifelong learners. This makes instruction accessible to students, both in terms of time and location. Chunking can be successful only if two key criteria are met. These are: (1) the process begins with credit programs; and (2) academic integrity is sustained.
