China cannot indiscriminately imitate the experience of other countries as it is unique. Research is being done on successful models in the world with a view to promoting the reform and development of vocational education by absorbing the advantages of those models. Competence based education (CBE) is one of the effective models of vocational education that is being researched. This paper outlines the basic features of CBE, the benefits for teachers, administrators and employers, the use of DACUM (Developing a Curriculum) and an evaluation of how CBE has been introduced.
