In the high-tech era, technicians are required to have specific competencies with a broad technical background. Schools and institutes must re-engineer their curricula to meet these needs. To keep up with technological advancement, technicians must participate in lifelong learning. This means that technical and vocational education must incorporate the concept of becoming boundless, borderless and endless. The authors discuss the necessity of developing a worldwide curriculum and the establishment of a global standard for certification and qualifications.
