- APEC education forum: 21st century challenge: technological and vocational education curriculum and instruction, November 2-6, 1997, Taipei: proceedings

This conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Education and co-sponsored by the Ming Chuan University and the International Cooperation Association of Technical Institutes. The two main purposes were to encourage APEC members to improve the quality of vocational education for the purpose of enhancing the quality of human resources and to encourage exchange and cooperation in the area of vocational education among APEC members. Five themes discussed at this forum. They were: (1) meeting the challenges of high-tech society with technological and vocational education curriculum and instruction; (2) new trends in curriculum development; (3) promoting international curriculum cooperation and exchange; (4) strengthening teacher education and improving instruction effectiveness; and (5) converting classroom learning into work competency. - Advisory committee: the vital partnership between today's high-tech society and vocational-technical education

Advisory committees, when properly organised and supported, can effectively provide the vital link between high-tech societies and vocational and technical education. This research focused on the role and organisation of advisory committees. Five areas are discussed. They were advising on the curriculum and instructional methods; advising on program equipment and facility needs; helping to recruit students; promoting vocational education to industry; and evaluating program effectiveness. Organisation factors including membership, structure, and procedures for effective meetings are covered. The intention is that the reader use these principles to enhance the effectiveness of advisory committees.
